The Clothing and Textiles program will give you a broad understanding of fashion design, including tailoring, construction techniques, clothing selection, merchandising and marketing theory.
Courses are taught by industry professionals who bring years of experience and insight to the classroom. Their backgrounds range from employment with large Los Angeles fashion companies to entrepreneurs with their own freestanding shops.

What will I learn?
You will learn basic sewing techniques, as well as how to fit garments and make your own patterns. The distinct qualities of a variety of textiles will be covered and how they work in relation to patterns and wear. You can create your own dress forms and learn to design and construct garments through draping techniques.
You will have the opportunity to take field trips to the Los Angeles Fashion District, clothing businesses and fabric outlets to learn about the industry and collect materials for assignments.
What kinds of classes are offered?
Courses on basic sewing skills (CT 050) provide the groundwork for concepts such as creating slopers and sewing pants (CT 112), using sergers (CT 120) and creating lined and unlined jackets in Speed Tailoring (CT 115). More advanced courses give you the freedom to create original patterns (CT 22) and learn to use custom patterns through draping techniques.
The Principles of Clothing Selection class (CT 101) offers you the opportunity to plan and participate in the program’s annual fashion show by creating and modeling garments runway style.
