Calendar Committee Forwards Recommendation to Expand Summer Session and Eliminate Intersession
On March 14, 2019, the Calendar Committee met to decide on a proposed academic calendar change. With a vote of 8 in favor and 4 against, the Calendar Committee recommending a change to the calendar to eliminate Intersession and increase summer to two six week sessions.
During the meeting, representatives on the committee reported out on surveys conducted:
Counselors: With 16 Counselors responding: 81% are in favor of a change and 18% in favor of no change.
Faculty: With 266 Faculty responding: 52.5% are in favor of a change and 46% in favor of no change.
Classified: With 21 Classified responding: 76% are in favor of a change and 23% in favor of no change.
Four variations of the proposed calendar were presented to the committee for a vote: “version one”: 0 votes; “version two”: 3 votes; “version three”: 5 votes; “version four”: 1 vote; and three committee members did not vote. With this vote, “version three” is recommended by the committee and attached below.
In accordance with AVCFT CBA, the Calendar committee “shall recommend a calendar to the presidents of the District, AVCFT and AVCFCE for final approval through a memorandum of understanding in time to meet the College’s scheduling timelines.”
