Inaugural Tim Wiley Advocate of the Year Award

Congratulations to former CalWORKS Director, Mr. Tim Wiley on earning the inaugural Tim Wiley Advocate of the Year Award. The California Community Colleges CalWORKs Association has established “The Tim Wiley Advocate of the Year" award that will be given every year to a person, honoring them for their service advocating for CalWORKs students. The Tim Wiley Advocate of the Year Award was created in honor of Mr. Wiley’s passionate service, leadership and being a strong advocate for students.

He ensured they always received the necessary resources, guidance, compassion, and tools, such as books, computers, transportation funds, and any other necessary items, to assist them to become successful students and model citizens. He was instrumental in collaborating positive working relationships with numerous organizations throughout the state, this includes, The California State Department of Social Services, The California Community College Chancellor's Office, Los Angeles County Department of Social Services, The Kern County Department of Social Services, The Lancaster and Palmdale Department of Social Services and Greater Avenues to Independence (GAIN) offices, Oasis Domestic Violence Shelter and Neighborhood Legal Services. to assist students with any issues they may have with the state, county, college or any other agencies.

Mr. Wiley also was elected and served as the President of the CalWORKs Association for the State of California (2016-2018), where his dedicated professionalism, selfless attitude and commitment to excellence, provided great leadership to New and Seasoned CaWORKs Directors throughout the state. Mr. Wiley was instrumental in demonstrating to everyone that he met his desire to fight for his students, why he fought for them and encouraged others to do the same.  Mr. Wiley was affectionately known throughout the state as "The One, The Only, There is No Other, The World Famous Mr. Wiley". He was always very welcoming to everyone. Even though he recently retired after 23 years as the CalWORKs Director, Mr. Wiley continues to help others and the students at Antelope Valley College. Congratulations Mr. Wiley on a job well done!
