CFE Practicum Experience
The practicum courses in Antelope Valley College's Child & Family Education (CFE) program are capstone experiences that bridge classroom learning and professional practice. Through supervised fieldwork in high-quality early childhood settings, students apply developmental theory, refine observation and teaching skills, and build the confidence needed to become effective early childhood educators. Under the mentorship of experienced classroom teachers and AVC faculty, practicum students gain real-world experience while developing their professional identity as advocates for young children and families.
Capstone Practicum Courses
Fieldwork Placements and Professional Mentorship
Real Classrooms, Real Experience
Practicum students complete supervised fieldwork at approved early childhood education sites. These partnerships provide students with diverse learning environments and exposure to various early childhood program models. Many AVC practicum students are paired with experienced mentor teachers who model effective teaching practices and support students' professional development. This mentorship relationship is a cornerstone of the practicum experience. Course faculty serve as a bridge between classroom theory and fieldwork practice.
Child Development Permit Alignment
Practicum fieldwork hours may count toward the supervised field experience required for California Child Development Permits. Students completing CFE 201 and CFE 202 can gain substantial hours toward the Teacher and Master Teacher permit levels.
