FS Features: Improvements

FS Facilities Planning & Campus Development is implementing numerous projects for campus comfort, sustainability and health & safety.

By August most parking lots on campus will be lit by energy efficient LED fixtures. The energy efficiency project is being funded by the state with Prop 39 funds. The energy efficiency program is designed to make major energy efficiency improvements throughout the state for a period of five years. The Year 1 project for Antelope Valley College is estimated to save 272,218 Kwh per year for an estimated annual savings of $35,388. An estimated additional SCE incentive of $64,423 will also be received.

Year 2 Prop 39 proposed projects are being developed at this time for state approval. Planned projects include replacement of the gym boiler system with a new energy efficient boiler system and more LED exterior lighting upgrades.

Energy Management System (EMS) upgrade project for the campus is nearing design completion. Presently, two EMS systems operate the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems of campus buildings. The older of the two systems is obsolete and no longer sustainable. Spare parts have to be located on EBay, if they can be found. This puts many of our buildings at risk of not operating properly with potential building shutdowns. The EMS project is to transition all buildings on the older EMS to the newer state of the art EMS. Significant energy savings will be achieved with more effective EMS controls of buildings campus wide. The project will be completed during the 2014-15 year.

Three projects have been funded with state scheduled maintenance and district funds for 2014-15. The projects will provide critical campus improvements and include:

  • Renovate Tennis Courts
  • Replace TE7 Building Obsolete Locks
  • Install New Flooring for SSV Building Corridors

The cooperation of everyone on campus is appreciated as consultants and contractors complete these important campus improvements. We are diligent to minimize any disruptions to the important business of the campus. Some disruptions, however, cannot be avoided and your patience and understanding is appreciated.
