Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Division

The social sciences are concerned with the study of human society and with the relationship of individuals in, and to, society. The behavioral sciences, particularly psychology, are concerned with the study of the actions of humans and animals. The key effort of the behavioral sciences is to understand, predict, and influence behavior.

Together, Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) encompass the study of subjects leading to a better understanding of ourselves and of the world in which we live. Many of the programs within the SBS Division stress practical applications of this knowledge, whether it's taking part in an archaeological dig in South America or working with young children in the elementary schools.
