Who Must Certify

Any faculty member teaching DE for the first time and every five (5) years thereafter.

Training Requirement

Complete Academic Senate–approved DE training (or an Academic Senate–approved equivalent), or demonstrate prior DE competence acceptable to the Academic Senate.

Timing

Finish DE training before teaching any DE course that begins at least one regular semester (fall or spring).

Compliance

Ensure all DE courses align with the Course Outline of Record and Title 5 (as overseen by the AP&P).

Purpose

To ensure faculty teaching online maintain high standards in pedagogy, accessibility, and RSI, in compliance with state and federal requirements.

Frequency

Per CBA Article XVII, online faculty must re-certify every 5 years after initial certification.

Who Needs to Re-Certify

• Faculty whose initial online teaching certification is over 5 years old.

Re-Certification Options (complete one within the last 5 years)

Complete one option within the last 5 years.

  Email Dr. Alex Parisky to enroll.

• College-Approved @ONE Course (free via CVC-OEI)

  Examples include:

  • Online Teaching & Design
  • Humanizing Online Learning
  • Creating Accessible Course Material
  • And other CVC @ONE courses (see Recertification Recommendations)

• POCR Training

  Email Jane Bowers for dates and the enrollment link.

Documentation

After completing one option, email the Online Education and Instructional Support Office and your Division Office with:

• Proof of completion (certificate, badge, or similar)
• Completion date(s)

Timeline

• Advised to start planning 6–12 months before your original certification expiration date.
• Submit documentation at least 8 weeks before your next semester assignment.
