College Students Invited to Explore AI Through Film in 'Reel Futures' Competition
AI Film Competition

Creative minds at Antelope Valley College are being called to the big screen with the launch of Reel Futures: Student AI Film Shorts Competition, an initiative inviting student filmmakers to create short videos pertaining to artificial intelligence and society.

The competition is open to individual or team entries and encourages participants to submit original short films between 3-7 minutes in length. Entries must fall under one of four categories:

  • AI and the Future: Envisioning the transformative role AI could play in shaping the future, from utopian advancements to ethical dilemmas.
  • AI's Impact on Teaching, Learning, and the Workforce: Exploring how AI is redefining education and the labor market.
  • AI and Climate Impact: Examining AI’s potential role in solving climate challenges or its environmental implications.
  • AI, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Social Justice: Investigating AI’s influence on equity and inclusion in society.

All entries must include a 250-word artist statement detailing the film’s concept and its alignment with one of the four categories. Content must be original or properly licensed.

Selected films will be featured at the Futures Summit 2025 in September, where student creators will participate in showcase screenings followed by live on-stage Q&A sessions.

The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2025.
