German Associate of Arts
The Associate of Arts in German is a transfer degree. Students are not required to transfer to receive the A.A.; however, students must satisfy transfer general education requirements as well as the AVC graduation requirement to receive the A.A. in German.
Students planning to transfer should create an education plan with their AVC counselor to make sure their courses meet requirements of the university to which they are transferring. Listed below is a plan of study that satisfies the UC, CSU and AVC and general education requirements as well as the major requirements for the A.A.
See AVC Catalog, Graduation/Associate Degree and Certificate Requirements for more information on the AVC graduation requirements.
To receive an Associate Degree, students must fill out an application for graduation and must meet
- AVC General Education as well as transfer education (UC/CSU) requirements

Suggested Plan of Study
This suggested plan of study meets the major requirements and the UC and CSU general education requirements as well as the AVC general education requirement. Some courses satisfy more than one area requirement. Students need to choose carefully from a general area since not all courses within an area (for example, art) meet all requirements. Art 110-Drawing meets the CSU Area C requirement but not the UC Area 3 (Arts and Humanities) requirement. There are however many art courses which satisfy the art requirement in both systems. Students are not required to meet the transfer requirements for both systems and may choose to meet either CSU or UC transfer requirements. Consult with a counselor about substitutions. Students are not required to earn an A.A. in order to transfer; however, they must meet the transfer requirements for that institution.
Institutions other than UC or CSU may have other requirements; students planning to transfer to a university other institutions should meet with an AVC counselor to verify transfer requirements.
