Logistics Training

AVC's Logistics Training develops and presents cost-effective online courses devoted to helping practitioners become more knowledgeable about the importance and application of logistics in today’s economy.

The purpose of these courses is to broaden the user’s knowledge so as to advance their career in logistics.

This course focuses on fundamental concepts related to Warehousing and Distribution Management. It addresses the sourcing, stocking, and distribution of products direct to customers or through complex supply chain distribution channels. Major topics covered in this course are Inventory Planning and Control, Warehouse Management, Logistics, and Transportation, and Distribution Planning.

Audience

This course is ideal for both new and experienced warehouse employees (Stock Clerks, Shipping and Receiving Clerks, Material Handlers, Inventory Planners Transportation Specialists, and other warehouse associates who want to hone their job skills and gain practical knowledge in the field of Warehouse & Distribution Management.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, it is strongly recommended that students have a basic knowledge or some experience in warehouse operations.

  • Fundamentals of transportation management

Learning Goals and Results

Students will learn the basic terms, concepts, and best practices used by Warehouse and Distribution Management professionals that can immediately be applied in performing their current job and/or used to prepare for a next level job opportunity. The terminology and concepts learned in this course will also aid students in preparing for APICS Certification exams for Planning & Inventory Management(CPIM), Supply Chain Management (CSCP) or Logistics, Transportation & Distribution (CL TD).

Time Investment

This class is a total of 24 hours of remote classroom instruction taken in 2-hour sessions twice a week over the course of 6 consecutive weeks.

Overview

The Supply Chain Warehousing Certificate, developed by ASCM in partnership with Prologis, signifies the completion of a foundational education program designed to help individuals build their knowledge in warehousing and distribution. The program provides an overview of distribution inventory management, product storage, packaging and shipment, sustainability in logistics and more.

Audience

This course will be of interest to those who wish to further their careers by obtaining a signed certificate and digital badge from the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM), including those that are considering Warehousing careers or have a few years’ experience and are looking to expand their career options in Supply Chain Management or wish to stand out in a competitive job market.

It will also be of interest to those that wish to gain education from ASCM, which is generally accepted as the gold standard in Supply Chain education, training, and development, or as a first step by those who wish to achieve ASCM certifications such as a CPIM, CSCP, or CLTD. Professional development is highly valued by employers. Employees with just one certification, certificate or credential earn 17% more than those without. Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites to this course, but some experience with warehousing and distribution will be beneficial.

Earning this certificate shows employers you have the knowledge and capability to:

  • Take part in the loading and shipping processes, and work with common shipping documents.
  • Schedule shipments and use various methods to track the shipments.
  • Follow an effective order fulfillment cycle and work to improve order accuracy and efficiency.
  • Use inventory management systems in warehouses and distribution centers to accurately report the quantity and value of the materials received, stored, and shipped to customers.
  • Categorize inventory and manage the costs associated with holding inventory.
  • Manage customer returns.
  • Follow environmentally sustainable work practices on the job.
  • Implement a structured problem-solving process to deal with problems in warehouses or distribution centers.
  • Make appropriate decisions about the use of different types of transportation carriers, understanding their characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Apply different performance metrics to measure the success of a facility in the warehousing and distribution industry.

This class is 20 hours of classroom time taken in 2-hour sessions, twice weekly, over the course of 5 consecutive weeks.
