The Engineering Program offers three distinct pathways that include: Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Through these pathways, students will complete lower division engineering coursework needed to transfer to any CSU, UC, as well as many other in-state or out-of-state universities, to complete a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.

What certificates/degrees can I earn?

  • Engineering technology certificate
  • Associate in Science degree in engineering technology
  • There is also a specially designed engineering transfer program for students wishing to transfer to a four-year university in California.

What will I learn?
You will learn about the profession of engineering and its relation to the world around you, the different specialties of engineering, and the theories and principles needed to solve problems. You will learn how to properly use engineering drawing instruments and the properties of important engineering materials. Computer aided design programs that are standard to the industry will be implemented throughout the program. You will gain entry-level skills to help you narrow the field of engineering you would like to specialize in, as well as serve as a foundation for advancement in that field.

What kinds of classes are offered?
The Engineering Program offers you challenging and rewarding classes in drafting, two- and three-dimensional computer aided design, and mathematics.

The courses in the associate degree program will be sufficient for most majors transferring to a four-year school, however the transfer program supplements the associate degree with classes to further assist students choosing to transfer to a CSU or UC school.

Antelope Valley College currently partners with CSU, Long Beach to ease the transition for transfer students and is in the process of developing new partnerships within the Southern California area.

What are possible jobs in this field?
There are many areas of engineering to choose from: aerospace, agricultural, architectural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial and mechanical, each of which offers unique opportunities and challenges.

Who could hire me?
While it is possible to find a trainee position while earning your associate degree, most employers require education beyond the two-year college level. 

What’s the average pay range for local jobs in this field?
Trainees can start at $25 per hour but pay ranges for this position vary widely on experience and employer.
