CDC Health Update:
Outbreak of Life-threatening Coagulopathy Associated with Synthetic Cannabinoids Use

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health update today to provide information on: 1) the current status of a multistate outbreak of coagulopathy from exposure to synthetic cannabinoid products (e.g., Spice, synthetic marijuana, K2) containing a vitamin K-dependent antagonist agent, brodifacoum; 2) the emergence of 2 new clinical scenarios; and 3) recommendations to help clinicians make decisions related to these 2 new clinical scenarios. 

For suspected cases in Los Angeles County:
  • Report immediately to LA County Department of Public Health Substance Abuse Prevention and Control: 626-299-3504
  • Contact California Poison Control for questions related to diagnostic testing and management: 800-222-1222
