Congratulation Class of 2020!
AVC's Virtual Commencement for the Class of 2020 will take place Friday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 we had to adjust, but we want to make sure you have your special day. We are looking forward to celebrating your academic achievements and bright futures!
Cap and gowns are available through the Marauder Bookstore for purchase. You can get more information on how to purchase your cap and gowns here. For more information on caps and gowns visit the bookstore website.
All students who graduate in Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 are able to participate in this ceremony. If your graduation date has changed to Fall 2020 you will be in the class of 2021 and will be able to walk next year.
Getting Ready for Commencement
Cap and Gown
All graduates participating in the ceremony will need to purchase a cap and gown. All graduates must wear an AVC cap and gown to the commencement ceremony.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Grad Finale has been cancelled for the year.
This year, if we are able to have guests in the stands, we will be issuing tickets. We are not sure at this point how many tickets each graduate will receive. We will be sending out more information on this as we know more. The Commencement Ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube so all your friends and family can watch you celebrate your special day.
The Day of Commencement
Dressing for the Day
Don’t forget your cap and gown. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The commencement ceremony will be held on the football field, so please wear flat comfortable shoes; no spiked heels. Leave all valuables at home and please don’t bring purses or electronic devices such as phones since there’s no place to store them.
All graduates must check in at Brent Carder Marauder Stadium to line up beginning at 6 PM. Graduates will line up on a first come, first line-up situation.
Brent Carder Marauder Stadium will open at 6 PM. The procession will begin promptly at 7:30 PM regardless of weather conditions. Once you enter the field you will not be allowed to leave until the ceremony has concluded.
After the procession and upon arriving at your chair, please remain standing until you are instructed to sit down. You will stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem. Guests on the platform will make remarks.
Following the speakers, your degree will be conferred and at the direction of the commencement marshals the first row will be directed to the stage. When your turn comes, move up to the stage area and hand your name card to the card reader. After your name is called, proceed to the center of the stage and receive your degree cover. You will also have your picture taken from Ultimate Exposure, who will send you a proof if you wish to purchase any pictures. After your name is called you will exit the stage and return to your row and be seated. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all graduates will be asked to stand and move their tassels from right to left signifying graduation. The commencement marshals will direct you to march out in reverse order. All graduates will pass through the Path of Scholars created by the faculty. Family and friends will not be allowed to interfere with the ceremony. All graduates must remain for the entire ceremony and all graduates will march off the field together. There are no exceptions.
Water and Refreshments
You may bring a bottle of water but absolutely no other food or drink of any kind will be allowed on the field. Please eat before you arrive. Coolers, alcohol, drugs or smoking are not allowed at this facility.
