
Steps to Join STEM Program
Complete a STEM Program Enrollment application (online link below)
Please complete the electronic application form using this link. Please do not forget to attach your unofficial transcripts to the application form when you submit. You will be notified by email of the committees decision.
The selection committee will review applications and select the top 60 candidates using the criteria below:
- Academic commitment (based on GPA and letter of intent)
- Interest in and commitment to STEM (based on major and essay)
- Member of a group historically underrepresented in STEM (e.g., first-generation college student, women, African American, Latino/a, Native American, veteran, foster youth)
All applicants will be notified of the committee's decision via avc-email
All decisions of the selection process are final and are NOT subject to reconsideration or review by the applicant or any other party. AVC reserves the right to withdraw acceptance into the program in the event that any information submitted by the applicant is deemed inaccurate or misleading.

Orientation:
Once you are accepted into the STEM program you will attend an orientation.
The final steps are to sign a STEM Program Agreement (SPA) and become oriented into the program. In order to best serve you and enrich your academic experience, the STEM Program has the expectation that you will get involved on campus and be proactive in advancing your academic, leadership, and career goals. We are available to you year round and will also check on you periodically throughout the semester to monitor your progress and make sure you are on track to transfer to a 4-year college or university with a STEM major. The STEM Program holds you accountable for:
- Registration
- Communication
- Academic Progress
- Meeting with a STEM Counselor or Advisor each term
- Transfer Progress
- Academic and Pre-Professional Development
- AVC STEM community involvement
