Antelope Valley College mourns the passing of Nancy Jo Hatfield, a former AVC employee, longtime Athletics volunteer and devoted supporter of Marauder student-athletes.
Hatfield's connection to AVC Athletics began in 1990, when her lifelong love of sports led her to volunteer with the college's men's and women's basketball programs. In 1997, she joined AVC as Senior Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Student Services. Her commitment to the college extended well beyond her professional role.
For decades, Hatfield was a familiar presence at AVC athletic events. She became an integral part of the game management team for men's and women's basketball, where she was known for her skill and dedication as a game clock operator. She is credited with helping set a high standard for basketball game management and will be remembered for her enduring love for AVC, its students and student-athletes.
Hatfield was inducted into the Antelope Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024. Her service to Marauder Athletics continued after her induction. Hatfield served as AVC's official basketball clock operator until the final few games of the 2025-26 season. She was also a faithful tournament trophy donor for the Gregg Anderson Memorial Basketball Tournament for many years.
Hatfield’s commitment to service also reached beyond AVC. She joined Lancaster Elks Lodge 1625 in the year 2010 and was elected Exalted Ruler in 2014.
Her Hall of Fame biography also reflected Hatfield's enduring belief in the college and its impact on the community. She believed “AVC will always be a leader in our community and continue to make a difference in people's lives,” and saw the college as a pathway for people to achieve their goals and make positive changes in their lives.
Hatfield died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026. AVC extends its condolences to her family, friends and all those in the college and Antelope Valley communities whose lives she touched.
Her decades of service, steadfast support of Marauder Athletics and genuine care for AVC students and student-athletes leave a lasting legacy at Antelope Valley College.
