Nursing Program (not for LVN - RN)
We are no longer accepting applications for the Spring 2025 semester.
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program can be completed in four semesters following admission to the program. In addition, students need at least two semesters to complete the prerequisites for admission to the program.
Enrollment packets will only be accepted during an application period. For consideration in the fall semester, students must apply from January 2 - March 1 of each year. For consideration in the spring semester, students must apply from July 1 - September 1 of each year. Should any of the dates fall on a major holiday or weekend, the period will begin/end on the next business day. .
Completed enrollment packets and satisfactory ATI TEAS results must be on file in the Health and Safety Sciences Division (Nursing Department Office) during the application period in which you are applying.
Current LVN's wanting to Bridge into the Nursing Program
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program can be completed in 3 semesters following admission to the program. In addition, students need at least two semesters to complete the prerequisites for admission to the program.
Enrollment packets are accepted on an ongoing basis however have a cutoff date of February 15 to be screened and considered for the summer of each year. Completed enrollment packets and satisfactory ATI TEAS results must be on file in the Health and Safety Sciences Division (Nursing Department Office) by February 15 to be considered admission. If the cutoff date falls on a weekend, students will have until the next business day directly following.
Additional Information
The ADN curriculum is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). The curriculum meets the requirements of the BRN for eligibility to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The student who completes the program is eligible to apply for an Associate in Science degree. Students must be admitted to the Associate Degree Nursing Program in order to enroll in nursing science classes.
Application for all nursing programs will only be kept on file for two years from the date your application is turned in. If you are not accepted within that two year period, you will be required to reapply to the program.
If you have taken the TEAS multiple times, ALL scores must be on file to be considered. If you were unsuccessful on the TEAS, you must pass on the second attempt otherwise you are disqualified from the program. Students must receive at least a 62% to be considered.
Application Process
1. Apply to AVC to receive a Student ID Number. If you already have a 900 number you will still want to apply to the college to make your status active.
2. Request 2 official copies of transcripts from ALL colleges attended. ONE official set will need to be sent to the transcripts department, ONE official set will need to be attached to your application. DO NOT OPEN any of the transcripts otherwise they will not be accepted. If AVC already has your transcripts on file, you will only need to turn in ONE official set with your application. If all your courses were taken at AVC, you will still need to attach one official AVC transcript with your application.
All grades for pre-requisite courses must be posted on transcript. Any courses listed as in progress will result in your application not being considered.
3. Request official transcripts from high school/GED showing graduation. This option is waived if you have a college degree, Associates or higher (must be posted on college transcript). This will need to be attached to your application and must be official. Copies of diplomas or certificates will not be accepted.
4. Attach a copy of the Educational Plan completed by an AVC Counselors.

The form should be completed no more than one semester prior to submitting the enrollment packet. If you are requesting an equivalency or substitution, allow at least six weeks for the process to be completed.
It is important that your educational plan is current and up to date. If you have any courses in progress, if you are waiting on any substitutions or equivalencies, it is important that you have your educational plan updated once courses are completed and substitutions/equivalencies are approved. Should you turn in a educational plan with any items pending, your application will be deemed incomplete and will not be processed. It is your responsibility to ensure this is completed and updated.
Please note, counseling WILL NOT schedule students for an educational planning and evaluation of transcripts two weeks from the application deadline. Please do not wait until the last minute to schedule this appointment if you are trying to apply by the deadline.
5. Once steps 1 - 4 have been completed, attach your educational plan, official college transcripts from all colleges INCLUDING AVC, attach official transcripts showing graduation of high school or GED (unless you have a college degree noted on your transcripts), fill out application for Nursing Program and turn into the Health and Safety Sciences Department.
6. LVN's ONLY - If you are applying to bridge into the nursing program, you will need to complete steps 1 - 4 and include a print out of your current LVN license. You will also need to keep it current while you are on the waitlist and once you get accepted into the program.
7. TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY - If you are trying to transfer into the nursing program, in order to receive credit for nursing courses taken at another institution, you will need to submit a "Request for Equivalency/Substitution" form and copies of the course descriptions, course outlines, and/or syllabi for evaluation of content as necessary. You will also need a letter from the director of the previous nursing program indicating you are in good stating and eligible to return. If you cannot provide any of these items, you cannot transfer into the program and will have to apply as a generic student.

Requirements of Program if Offered Admission
Students who are offered a space in the program are required to adhere to the background, physical and vaccination guidelines set forth within the clinical affiliation agreements AVC Health programs have with various hospitals and doctors office's. If you fail to meet those requirements, you will not be able to proceed in the Registered Nursing Program.
Students must complete the following:
1. Full physical exam with vision, hearing CBC and urinalysis. Student must also be able to participate in the following activities without restriction:
- Maintain emotional stability and to understand how to cope with stress during crisis situations.
- Exhibit written and verbal communication skills.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear and smell.
- Walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Occasionally to sit and climb or balance, push, pull or bend.
- Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; perform all direct patient care activities, transferring, bathing, ambulating, and feeding procedures.
- Manipulate various sizes of equipment and supplies; perform CPR and charting activities.
- Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and adjust focus.
2. Proof of vaccination against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (two doses) within the last five years OR proof of immunity (titer) within the last year.
3. Proof of vaccination against varicella (two doses) within the past five years OR proof of immunity (titer) within the last year
4. Proof of vaccination against Hepatitis B (3 doses) within the past five years OR proof of immunity (titer) within the last year.
5. Two step TB test, chest x-ray or Quantiferon blood test within the last year (TB Test and Quantiferon blood test will have to be renewed yearly while in program)
6. Proof of vaccination against TDAP (Tetanus and Pertussis) within last ten years.
7. Seasonal Flu Vaccination
8. Covid 19 Vaccination
9. Drug Screening with Alcohol (Urine). Students must be tested for the following:
- Alcohol
- Amphetamines
- Barbiturates
- Benzodiazepines
- Benzoylecgonine (Cocaine)
- Cannabinoids
- Meperidine (Demerol)
- Methadone
- Methaqualone
- Opiates
- Oxycodone
- Phencyclidine
- Propoxyphene
Should a student not be able to receive any vaccinations due to a medical reason, a Doctor's note must be attached to the physical exam when turned in.
