Candidate Stated Objective

With over twenty years of progressive leadership in higher education and substantial experience guiding complex academic organizations, I offer Antelope Valley College a record of success in instructional oversight, strategic planning, program development, accreditation, and collaborative governance. Having previously served Antelope Valley College for seven years as a dean, I welcome the opportunity to return to a community and institution I know well and deeply respect.

In my current position of Interim Vice President of Instruction at Taft College, I serve as the Chief Instructional Officer with full responsibility for academic programs, instructional operations, and academic support services, where I provide strategic leadership across all instructional divisions and ensure instructional quality, equitable access, and student success. I currently lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional programs, curriculum, academic support services, and student-success strategies. My accomplishments reflect a leadership approach grounded in data-informed decision-making, collaborative planning with faculty and administrators, and a deep commitment to academic excellence and student opportunity.

My prior work experiences of managing accreditation and program-review cycles, leading curriculum development, supporting faculty hiring and evaluation, administering grants and categorical programs, strengthening partnerships with industry and community organizations, and serving in key roles on participatory governance committees, enriched my understanding of AVC’s culture, community, instructional priorities, and commitment to equity and student achievement.

Across all leadership roles, I have prioritized transparency, communication, and collaborative problem-solving. I have successfully supervised and evaluated academic administrators, faculty, and staff; resolved complex personnel and operational issues; aligned resource allocation with institutional priorities; and represented the institution to external partners and agencies. I bring a steady, thoughtful, and strategic leadership style rooted in integrity and a commitment to student success.

I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to return to Antelope Valley College in this senior administrative capacity. I care deeply about the College, its students, and the region it serves, and I would be honored to help lead its next chapter of growth and academic excellence.

Candidate Stated Objective

I am seeking the role of Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs at Antelope Valley College because I believe deeply in the mission of community colleges and in the power of Academic Affairs to shape that mission into daily reality. This work matters because it touches the student experience at every level: the quality of instruction, the relevance of curriculum, the support provided to faculty, and the institutional structures that help students persist, learn, and achieve their goals.

My career has prepared me for this responsibility through progressive leadership in community college education. I currently serve as Dean of Instruction at Porterville College, and I previously held district-level leadership roles as Director of Grants and Resources within Kern Community College District and Pierce College District. Across these experiences, I have learned that academic leadership is at its best when it is both strategic and deeply grounded in the real work of colleges.

I bring a leadership approach that values rigor, transparency, collaboration, and steady follow-through. I respect the central role of faculty in academic and professional matters, and I also understand that strong institutions depend on thoughtful systems, clear communication, and disciplined execution. My work has included leadership in scheduling, curriculum, faculty evaluation, educational planning, outcomes assessment, program review, accreditation, and cross-functional problem solving. I approach these responsibilities not as isolated tasks, but as connected parts of a larger commitment to academic quality and student success.

I also believe Academic Affairs must remain connected to the communities it serves. Throughout my career, I have built partnerships with K–12 districts, Native American tribes, community organizations, and industry partners to expand access, strengthen pathways, and support meaningful educational opportunity.

If selected, I would lead Academic Affairs at Antelope Valley College with integrity, clarity, and a strong sense of responsibility to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. I would work to ensure that academic excellence is not only articulated, but consistently experienced.
