Black Women’s History Month Panel
April 24th, 2024 | 04:00 pm - 05:00 pm

The essence of Women’s Black History Month is captured by the statement of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President Yolanda Frazier:

“As I examine all the contributions made by our beautiful, aspiring and intellectual Black women, I’m reminded that it’s our mothers, our grandmothers, our daughters, our aunts, our nieces, our sisters, our pastors and our friends who continually make daily sacrifices as we create new trajectories for our African American diaspora women. As Black History Month can’t be captured in a month, Black Women’s History Month exists right now and will last forever. I pray that each of you thank someone today who showed you compassion and grace to be the individual you were ordained to be. May each of you be reminded of your contributions which will aid in bettering our humanity across the world."

In the spirit of the context of that statement, The Office of the Superintendent/President Jennifer Zellet, Ph.D, is hosting an insightful panel discussion Featuring Antelope Valley College Black Professional Women as they reflect on their individual journey’s highlighting their strengths, struggles, and pivotal experiences.

The panelists include pivotal Black Professional Women, Dr. Rashitta Brown-Elize; Instructor Morenike Adebayo-Ige, Ed.D.; AVC Board President Michelle Harvey; AVC General Counsel Bridget Cook, Esq.; Dean of Enrollment Services LaDonna Trimble; EOPS/Next Up Director Kendra Ruff; and will be moderated by AVC Program Coordinator/AVCFCE President Pamela Ford.

This panel will discuss how they became leaders, sharing their strengths, challenges and success, and their contributions to the college.

In honor of Black Women’s History Month, the panel will also touch on those who mentored them along the way, and historical black women who have influenced them as leaders today.

Refreshments will be served.
