AVC Professor Publishes Research on Animation and Everyday Performance
Vivid Cubist Mosaic of Color

Greg Langner, Ph.D., associate professor of communication studies at Antelope Valley College, has published “Performances of Animative Embodiment: Unbound Bodies Upon an Everyday Stage” in Animation Studies Journal, Volume 20.1.

The article introduces animative embodiment, a term for how people perform as or alongside animated characters in everyday settings. Drawing on examples such as Pokémon Go, cosplay and live theatrical performance, Langner explores how animation and performance can shape how people express themselves and connect with others.

The open-access article bridges animation and performance studies and offers an entry point for readers interested in popular culture, media, theatre, dance and communication.
