Physical Science - PSCI

AVC Physical Science introduces students to the study of the natural world through scientific observation, quantitative reasoning, experimentation, and analysis.

Physical science connects major ideas from astronomy, physics, chemistry, and related disciplines to help students better understand matter, energy, motion, Earth systems, and the universe. Courses support both general education and transfer preparation in the physical sciences.

Physical Science Courses

  • PSCI 101 - Physical Science
  • PSCI 302 - Introduction to Quantitative Atmospheric Dynamics and Thermodynamics

What You Will Study

Students in physical science study foundational scientific principles related to matter, energy, motion, Earth systems, and atmospheric processes. These courses help students understand how scientific laws explain natural phenomena across multiple physical science disciplines.

Coursework also strengthens scientific reasoning, quantitative thinking, observation, interpretation of evidence, and the ability to connect concepts across astronomy, physics, chemistry, and related fields.

How Physical Science Is Taught

Lecture and Discussion

Students build understanding through guided instruction, discussion, and the study of core scientific concepts and relationships.

Laboratory and Investigation

Hands-on activities and experiments help students explore natural and physical systems through observation, measurement, and analysis.

Technology-Enhanced Learning

Traditional instruction may be supported by computer-based tools and internet resources that strengthen scientific exploration and learning.

Plan Your Path

Physical Science courses can support general education, transfer preparation, and broader study in the natural sciences.

Students are encouraged to review course information carefully and meet with a counselor to determine how these courses fit into their educational plan.
