The Antelope Valley College Rich Sim Gallery invites the campus community and the public to experience Between Earth and Sky: A Solo Exhibition of Work by Debbie McAfee, on view from Aug. 17 through Sept. 25.
Inspired by the Antelope Valley high desert landscape, McAfee transforms photography, fabric and embroidery into richly textured works that reimagine familiar terrain. By cutting photographs into fragments and reconstructing them with sewn fabric, she creates layered compositions that celebrate the beauty and character of the region.
McAfee brings a deeply personal perspective to the landscapes that define the community. Born in San Luis Obispo and raised in Los Angeles, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film and photography from California College of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at Craig Krull Gallery, Gallery 825, the USC Fisher Museum of Art and other California institutions.
Between Earth and Sky offers visitors an opportunity to experience the work of an accomplished California artist whose creative practice is rooted in the Antelope Valley.

Visitors are also invited to attend a free exhibition reception on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the exhibition and the artist's work.
