Career Technical Education
Preparation for entry-level positions in a number of exciting careers is available through the Career Technical Education division at Antelope Valley College.
Health & Safety Sciences
The Health & Safety Sciences division provides a service program designed to accommodate all students through physical activity courses, health education courses, intramural sports, and intercollegiate athletics.
Kinesiology and Athletics
Kinesiology is the academic discipline which involves the art and science of physical activity, human movement and its impact on health, society and the quality of life.
Language & Communication Arts
The Language & Communication Arts division offers an array of courses and services designed to help students improve their academic skills, such as reading, writing, and critical thinking, and to enhance their understanding of the diverse ways that ideas are communicated in a society. Disciplines include Academic Development, Communication Studies, English, ESL, Reading, and World Languages.
Math, Science, and Engineering
The Math, Science, and Engineering division provides students with a broad selection of courses in the sciences and mathematics to serve as a foundation for transfer to four-year universities and increasing one’s own understanding. Disciplines include Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life and Natural Sciences.
Social & Behavioral Sciences
Social sciences encompasses the study of subjects leading to a better understanding of ourselves and of the world in which we live. Disciplines include Social Science, Behavioral Science, Economic Development, and Family and Consumer Sciences.
Other Academic Programs
Airframe Manufacturing Technology
AVC’s Airframe Manufacturing Technology program is designed to meet the need in the aerospace industry for multi-skilled individuals who understand, perform, and serve as first-line leads in the major processes of manufacturing the structural components of an aircraft for civilian and military specifications.
AV SOAR High School
SOAR (Students on the Academic Rise) High School is a specialized high school located on the Antelope Valley College campus but it is part of the Antelope Valley Joint Union High School District.
Community College Pathway to Law School
The AVC Law Scholars program is designed to prepare community college students for admission to law school in California.
Extended Learning
Extended Learning offers a wide range of educational seminars and professional development programs. These programs provide educational and personal services to the community, and professional development seminars to the businesses in our community.
Honors Program
The Honors Transfer Alliance Program offers the opportunity for priority admission to many major universities throughout the state. A seminar-like atmosphere sterns from the small class size (maximum of 15), leading to lively discussions between students and professors. Students are encouraged to work closely with faculty to pursue creative and/or independent projects. The program also stresses writing, research and critical thinking skills. The course offerings arc designed to facilitate transfer to a four-year university, and we offer the services of an honors counselor to assist students in planning their courses.
Puente Program
The Puente Program is an academic, counseling and mentoring program of support for students to achieve success in both academic and career goals while in community college. Students enrolled in the PUENTE program complete two courses as a cohort that are transferable and LatinX focused. In addition, Puente students work closely with their Counselor, English Instructor and Mentor to prepare for transfer to a four-year university. Puente is open to students of all backgrounds.

SB70
The overall goal of the Governor’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Initiative (SB 70/SB 1133) is to strengthen California’s workforce development efforts by linking the State’s investment in economic development with its investment in public instruction and other significant public investments. Funds are used for projects that: bring together economic development initiatives and consortia composed of community colleges, high schools, and Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (ROCPs); develop regional articulation councils to create seamless, non-redundant education and training in California that corresponds to economic demand; strengthen existing CTE sectors; increase career exploration for middle school and high school students by improving linkages between industry and education through the application of classroom learning in real-world settings (e.g., as interns and apprentices); and meet critical professional development and capacity building needs.
