First Year Experience

Here at Antelope Valley College, we know that there is nothing like your first year of college. New challenges and opportunities are around every corner. This is an exciting time, but it can be a little frightening at the same time, as we know.

That is why we created the First Year Experience (FYE). FYE is a program that is here to help you make a smooth and successful transition to college life. Participating in all of the FYE and other campus activities will help you build a firm foundation of success that will support you during your first year of college. We are here to help you get in college, through to graduation, and beyond to your career.

The FYE program aims to support first generation college students that tested at the basic skills level or two levels below and any other traditional recent high school graduates who want to be a part of a program that engages students beyond the classroom. If you are a 2016 high school grad enrolling at AVC, then you are already a part of the 2016-2017 First Year Experience Program.

FYE students will have access to the following benefits:

- Student Success Kick-Off

- Registration Events

- Human Development 101 (You can enroll in HD 101 in Summer or Fall)

- Summer Bridge

- Peer Mentoring

- Learning Communities

- Access to AVID for Higher Education strategies

- FYE Counselors

- Weekly Empowerment Emails

- FYE Events, Workshops

 ...and more!

Participating in the FYE program is simple, just make sure that you have already done these four steps in advance:

1. Applied to AVC
